It's Never Too Late!
I am a 56-year old male and was born with amblyopia in my right eye and extreme nearsightedness in both eyes. The vision in the right eye was so bad that lenses could not make the eye useable or functional. Needless to say, I had never experienced stereoscopic vision.
In the 1990s I had my annual check ups at the University of Houston Eye Clinic. It was there that I learned that amblyopia was not related to a defect in the eye, but was the result of an under active part of the brain that dealt with sight. In addition, the doctors indicated that since my condition was not diagnosed until I was five years old, nothing could be done to improve the sight in my right eye.
I began seeing Dr. Werner in fall 2011. She of course confirmed that amblyopia was an issue with the brain. In contrast to my former providers, she indicated that it was possible to improve eyesight in my right eye, my age and the longstanding condition was not a factor, and both eyes in general, by doing exercises that would make under active sight-related parts of my brain more active.
She prescribed light therapy and vision training with prism work that involved looking at an incandescent light bulb with red or green lenses. When I started the exercise program the image of the light bulb seen by the right eye was approximately 5 times the size of the actual bulb and it was separate and at about "2 o'clock " in relation to the image seen by the left eye. Now the image of the bulb in the right eye is only two times the size of the actual light bulb and now intersects and often covers the image seen by the left eye. For the first time in my life I have stereoscopic vision up to a distance of ten feet. I now see print with my right eye at a distance of eight inches that I could only see from a distance of four inches when I began the exercise program. Vision in my left eye has improved and peripheral vision in both eyes has also improved. And the added benefit and it is major to me, when my eyes began to work better my energy level, sleep, memory and how I handle stress have been greatly improved.
I would highly recommend Dr. Charlene Werner to help you with your vision ...Her Motto “Change Your Vision, Change Your Life”.
Thanks Dr. Werner,
Bob
